First Letter Using Postful (Beta)
April 3, 2007
So, in grand slashdot tradition, “first post” was claimed on Postful. Yes, we’ve sent other test messages through, but this one was the first after we launched the beta (so, by that logic, you’ll have another try when we have our public launch).
Pretty much every startup out there owes a huge debt to friends and family who faithfully test, provide feedback, and just put up with the hours we put in. My brother, Matthew, has been part of our testing from the beginning and he claimed the honor of sending the first letter yesterday (which he shared with me and kindly gave permission to share with all of you):

Hi folks,
This sounds like a very interesting idea (I’m kind of lazy, but need to send letters sometimes), but more information would be helpful. I suspect other people might feel the same way, so here’s what I’d like to see:
1. A photograph of what a finished letter looks like. I don’t want to send a Postful letter if it’s got advertising or your branding all over it; I’m pretty sure you’re not doing this, but I want to be certain. Basically, I want to know my letters will look professional.
2. The ability to define stationery. It’d be good to be able to say, “this is my letterhead, I want it at the top of everything I do”, as well as, “this is the return address I want printed on my envelopes”.
3. The ability to upload a Word document or a PDF and have that sent by mail.
Number 1 is the most important: I’d like to see a sample photo. Pictures are good.

Well as the person who received the first letter last week I think I can help with some of those questions.
There is no branding on the letter, what you see in the preview is what you get, in my case a puppy. The return address is the address you use for the account and can be changed if you move.
As for letterhead I’m not sure if I’m allow to talk about future features
When you are working in Word you can go to File, Send To, and then select Mail Recipient and that will put the Word file in a email you can send to Postful. Hope this helps.
Oh, and for pictures there is going to be sample letters section soon to look at.
